• Robinson Road and Greenhurst Road Railroad Overpass

Thank you for your interest in the project!
  • There are two alternative options for the new Greenhurst Road intersection with the jug handle connector road: the roundabout and signalized intersection options. The benefits and disadvantages of each option are outlined here so you can answer a couple of questions about your preferences for each option.

    OPTIONS FOR GREENHURST ROAD INTERSECTION

  • Image-5
  • Option 1: Roundabout Intersection

Benefits or Neutral (as compared with Option 2)

    • Highest estimated crash reduction rate. The roundabout will slow drivers through the intersection and is estimated to reduce fatal and injury crashes by 61% compared to the existing roadways and intersections.
    • Fewer delays. Drivers will experience an average delay of 9.75 seconds. Without improvements, drivers will experience more than 50 seconds of delay.
    • Greenhurst Road may be able to remain open until the Greenhurst roundabout is constructed.

Disadvantages (as compared with Option 2)

    • Larger project footprint. Requires approximately 10 acres of additional right-of-way to construct the project, which is 1 acre more than the signalized intersection.
    • Higher overall estimated costs. Estimated concept level construction cost is $36.6 million, which is $2.4 million more than the signalized intersection.
    • Impacts five irrigation crossings compared to four with the signalized intersection.
    • Requires extended closures for both the north and south sides of Robinson Road.

  • Option 2: Signalized Intersection

Benefits or Neutral (as compared with Option 1)

    • Reduction in delays. Drivers will experience an average delay of 12.0 seconds. Without improvements, drivers will experience more than 50 seconds of delay.
    • Smaller project footprint. Requires approximately 9 acres of additional right-of-way to construct the project, which is 1 acre less than the roundabout intersection.
    • Lower overall estimated costs. Estimated concept level construction cost is $34.2 million, which is $2.4 million less than the roundabout intersection.
    • Impacts four irrigation crossings compared to five with the roundabout intersection.
    • Shortens construction duration and closure of Greenhurst Road compared to the roundabout option.

Disadvantages (as compared with Option 1)

    • A 50% reduction in fatal and injury crashes is estimated compared to existing roadways and intersections. This is less than the 61% reduction expected as a result of the roundabout option.
    • Requires extended closures for both the north and south sides of Robinson Road.
