• Iowa Community Bridge Survey

Supporting Iowa DOT's 2026 CHBP Grant Application
  • Background Information

In 2026, the U.S. Department of Transportation will award up to $350 million in Competitive Highway Bridge Program (CHBP) grants to support critical infrastructure projects across the country. CHBP is a nationally competitive grant program that provides funding for highway bridge replacement or rehabilitation projects on public roads.

A collaborative group of 20+ counties, cities, the Iowa County Engineers Association (ICEA), and the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) is applying to receive funding to help replace 32 bridges in poor condition across the state. These bridge replacement projects would improve safety, increase communities’ connection to nearby areas, provide easier access for freight and agricultural-related movement and allow for economic growth.

This survey will give us insight into your views on the existing bridges, how you use the current structures, and your thoughts on proposed improvements to widen, provide safer travel conditions, and support heavier freight loads on these structures. The survey should take no more than 5 minutes to complete. If you wish to complete the survey for more than one structure, please follow the instructions on the thank you page when you finish. We appreciate your input!
