  • Trinity Place to Northern Avenue/Nelson Ferry Road

Alternative 1 - Trinity Place to Northern Avenue/Nelson Ferry Road

Between Trinity Place to Northern Avenue/Nelson Ferry Road, Alternative 1 consists of removing one of the westbound travel lanes and replacing it with on-street parking. The westbound direction of travel would remain as one lane, before developing a left turn lane at Trinity Place. Painted medians would be added along West Ponce de Leon Avenue, separating the eastbound and westbound directions of travel. Some parking would be removed along eastbound West Ponce de Leon Avenue to allow for better visibility for drivers using Water Street. Additionally, a raised crosswalk would be installed at the Pinetree Drive intersection, along with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBS) for additional pedestrian crossing safety. Reduced travel lane widths are also required to allow for the painted medians and buffer areas for parking.

Alternative 2 - Trinity Place to Nothern Avenue/Nelson Ferry Road

Under Alternative 2, the same elements from Alternative 1 remain. The only change is the addition of physical medians in place of the painted medians. Exact size and location of the medians are unknown and may be adjusted during design. Low-lying vegetation may be allowed within the medians, provided they do not obstruct visibility of oncoming traffic.

  • East Parkwood Road to Trinity Place

Alternative 1 - East Parkwood Road to Trinity Place

Between East Parkwood Road to Trinity Place, Alternative 1 consists of removing on-street parking on the south side of West Ponce de Leon Avenue, to allow for wider bike lanes and buffer area for the safer travel of bicyclists. On the north side, the parking lane and bike lane are flipped to allow for parking protected bike lanes. Vehicular travel lanes are also narrowed to aid in speed reduction. The intersection at Upland Road is converted to a right-in, right-out to help with access management. Raised crosswalks are proposed at the existing crosswalks at the Upland Road and Drexel Avenue intersections, as well as Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBS). Adair Street will become a raised intersection with RRFBs.

Alternative 1 with Chicane - East Parkwood Road to Trinity Place

Alternative 1 with Chicane would add chicane features, including bulb outs, to the section of West Ponce de Leon Avenue between Upland Road and Drexel Avenue. All other elements of Alternative 1 would remain. The purpose of the chicane would be to provide additional traffic calming and speed reduction along the corridor. Including the bulb outs necessary to create the chicane, some additional on-street parking would be lost.

Alternative 2 - East Parkwood Road to Trinity Place

Between East Parkwood Road to Trinity Place, Alternative 2 consists of reversing the bike lanes and on-street parking in both directions of travel, providing parking protected bike lanes. In this alternative, on-street parking is maintained in both directions, but may be impacted to provide better visibility at cross streets turning onto West Ponce de Leon Avenue.

Alternative 2 with Chicane - East Parkwood Road to Trinity Place

Alternative 2 with Chicane would add chicane features, including bulb outs, to the section of West Ponce de Leon Avenue between Upland Road and Drexel Avenue. All other elements of Alternative 2 would remain. The purpose of the chicane would be to provide additional traffic calming and speed reduction along the corridor. Including the bulb outs necessary to create the chicane, some additional on-street parking would be lost.
